Leak Detection
The first step in fixing any type of leak is determining where it is. That’s where our leak detection services come in handy.
Not sure if you need a professional to assess your home? Your plumbing likely has a leak if you notice any of the following:
- Unusually high water bills
- Warm and/or wet floor
- The constant sound of running water in your pipes
- Wet yard or a particular area of the yard that has more water than the rest
How Does Leak Detection Work?
Upon arriving at your home, one of our plumbers will make a visual assessment of your home to determine the water’s origin and collection points. This is the start of our leak detection process.Once we’ve determined the starting point, we will use our electronic leak detection equipment to more accurately pinpoint the leak. This can involve connecting a series of clamps and wires to the pipes so they emit an electronic frequency. From there, we will use our headphones to follow the sounds and frequency until we determine both where the leak is and the depth of the pipe.
After locating the leak and determining the extent of the damage, we can do one of two things:
- Excavate the ground to repair the damaged section of piping.
- Leave the existing pipe underground and re-route a new supply pipe.
Because every situation is different, we will advise you on the most economical and effective solution. No matter what we recommend, know that our word is backed by decades of experience and industry expertise.

Drainage Pipe Leaks
Your drainage pipes are likely made from one of the following three materials:
- ABS—Black plastic pipe
- PVC—White plastic pipe
- Cast Iron—Old metal pipe that looks black
ABS and PVC pipes hold up the longest while cast iron tends to rust out. Most San Diego homes have newer plastic pipes that last longer, but these drainage pipes also can leak when they aren’t installed properly. Often, when contractors build a home, their goal is to get the job done as quickly as possible. Unfortunately for homeowners, this typically means cutting corners and delivering sub-par work.
How Do I Know If My Drains Need to Be Repaired?
- If your home has a crawlspace, check your pipes to see if there any noticeable leaks underneath your home. There could be a leak that’s gone unnoticed for years.
- If you notice dampness or black mold near the base of the wall, there is probably a leaky drain behind the wall that needs to be repaired.
- Every few months, check below your kitchen cabinets and bathroom sinks to see if there are leaks. San Diego’s older homes often still have old drain lines and sewer lines prone to leaks. Being proactive and checking for leaks regularly is the best way to prevent costly damage.

Wall Leaks
If you have a leak in your wall, you need a plumber who has the knowledge and experience to reliably fix the problem. Unfortunately, many plumbers cut corners when soldering water lines. They might not solder the entire joint or they might not wipe off excess flux, the material that helps the solder form properly. Excess flux could cause the pipe to deteriorate later on. We never take shortcuts in our work and provide written warranties for your full peace of mind.
Here in San Diego, our hard water contains chloramine and other minerals that eat through pipes and create pinhole leaks. If you notice an unusual sound behind your walls or wet walls and floors, then you likely have a leak in your wall. If this is the case, turn off your water supply and call us to assess the situation.
We can fix any problem related to leaks in your walls, including:
- Water leak in the wall
- Water coming from the wall
- Water coming up from the floor
- Leaking pipes in the wall
-
Slab Leak
Slab leaks are common but complicated problems in the San Diego area. Because our water supply contains chloramine and other minerals, copper pipes tend to deteriorate, and slab leaks commonly occur.
There are a number of signs that can indicate a slab leak, including:
- Wet or hot floor or carpet
- Unusually high water bill despite no leaking faucets, toilets, sprinklers, etc. The constant sound of water running through your pipes
- Sinking foundation due to water underneath it
The first step in determining whether you have a slab leak is to have one of our plumbers use leak detection equipment to pinpoint the problem. Depending on where the leak is, we’ll either break up the concrete to repair the pipe or re-route the pipe overhead to avoid breaking the concrete floor.
Note: Hot Water Lines Leak More Often Than Cold Water Lines
Hot water lines are generally the first to leak. But how do you know if this has actually happened? There are a couple ways to determine whether your hot water line is leaking:- Feel around the floor of your home. If there’s a spot that feels unusually warm, this could be where the hot water line is leaking.
- If your hot water heater is constantly running, it’s likely that the hot water line is leaking somewhere underneath the slab.
