Maintaining Your Garbage Disposal & Repairs
If you want to keep your garbage disposal in good condition, there are a few things you can do that could save you from needing to hire a plumber. For starters, only use your disposal as intended, and avoid putting anything in it that isn’t good. Fats, grease, bones and stringy foods, like celery, also shouldn’t go in your disposal.
To keep your blades nice and sharp, but several ice cubes in the disposal and run it every few months.
If your garbage disposal suddenly won’t turn on, your motor may simply need to be reset. Look for a red button on the bottom of your disposal. After you press it, your disposal may start working again.
If it sounds jammed, there may be a allen wrench looking tool sitting under your kitchen cabinet. This goes in the bottom center of the garbage disposal and is turned in a clockwise formation. It is intended to unjam the disposal.
