We have had many customers come to us lately with clogged sewer lines. We would come out to their house, and unclog the sewer line and then run a sewer camera or scope down their drain line to determine what caused the stoppage. In many instances we found collapsed sewer lines, roots, old sewer lines that were nearly out of service or many other things.
What the worst part was, is that many of these people had just bought their home. We asked them if they had their sewer line scoped before buying their home and they said they had not.
Had they had the sewer line scoped before buying the home then these faulty sewer lines would have been brought to their attention before the home was bought and an estimate could have been given to the seller of the home and the repairs could have been credited to the buyer or negotiated off of the selling price of the home.
This is especially important if you are buying a home older than 25 years old. Although we do find issues in homes just 10+ years old. Many of the issues in these newer homes are caused by poor workmanship by the builder as opposed to old age that is common in the older homes.
Yes, scoping a sewer line is an added cost that you will incur when buying a home, however it can potentially save you thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars later.
If you are buying a home and are wanting a sewer scope to be done we charge $199 (through an accessible clean out) and we give you a recording of the scoping.
Feel free to put in a request for service if you are buying a house at the top of this page.
